Heavy Glass

Starphire^® glass offers higher visible light transmittance (VLT) than ordinary clear glass in thicknesses of up to 3/4-inch or 19 mm. Architects are able to specify Starphire^® extra-heavy glass for heavy interior glass applications, including security glazing.

Kitchen & Bath

Starphire^® glass allows decorative furnishings and accents to shine through with true color fidelity, making it the perfect choice for kitchen countertops and backsplashes as well as shower and bathtub enclosures. In bathrooms, specify Starphire^® glass with the Clarvista^® glass coating to protect bath enclosures against dullness caused over time by the corrosive effects of heat and humidity.

Durability and Strength

Starphire^® low-iron glass has the same surface hardness and resistance to abrasion and scratching as standard clear glass, which means its stunning color fidelity and clarity is as protected from scratches and scuffs as clear alternatives, with less green distortion. Additionally, while surface hardness is not the same as tensile strength, both low-iron and clear glasses also offer the same tensile performance.

Here's how it works: low-iron and clear glasses are produced using the same float process and equipment but require different levels of purity in raw materials. This results in the remarkable clarity and brilliance for which Starphire^® glass is known.

Fabrication and Availability

Starphire^® glass is available in thicknesses from 3.2 mm to 19 mm and is stocked regionally to assure consistent supply reliability. Starphire^® glass can be cut, edge polished, drilled, heat treated, laminated, fritted, magnetron sputtered vacuum deposition (MSVD) coated and insulated to suit a wide variety of applications.
