VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass by Vitro Architectural Glass Awarded Prestigious Recognition by Environment+Energy Leader

PITTSBURGH, April 22, 2024 – Vitro Architectural Glass is pleased to announce that one of its highest-performing products, VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG), has been distinguished with a coveted Top Product of the Year Award in the Environment+Energy Leader Awards program. This year marks a milestone as the program divided accolades into six innovative categories, tailoring recognition to specific sustainability and energy management excellence sectors.

VacuMax™ VIG is a highly versatile product that delivers center-of-glass (COG) R-values that rival the thermal performance of traditional walls.

Consisting of two fully tempered lites of glass separated by a non-leaded metal seal and a vacuum air space, a VacuMax™ VIG unit’s slim construction and light weight allow them to be incorporated into virtually any traditional glazing system and significantly improve thermal efficiency, delivering insulation performance that is two to four times better than conventional insulating glass and up to 14 times better than standard monolithic glass.

Compared to other VIG products, VacuMax™ VIG has an exceptionally long life and delivers superior resistance against thermal expansion or contraction caused by extreme indoor/outdoor temperature differences. VacuMax™ VIG units are the ultimate in thermal glazing, providing energy savings and reduced carbon emissions.

Jessica Hunt, Co-President of E+E Leader, expressed her admiration for this year’s winners: “The introduction of six distinct categories in this year’s awards program not only celebrates the breadth of innovation within the industry but also highlights the specific areas where companies are truly making an impact. A win is a testament to these companies’ outstanding efforts and leadership in driving forward the sustainability agenda.”

Recently, Vitro announced that it refined VacuMax™ VIG to deliver better thermal performance and aesthetics. The newest generation of VacuMax™ VIG is now manufactured exclusively with Solarban® 70 solar-control, low-e glass by Vitro, which enables a massive 79% improvement in U-values and delivers world-leading wall-like R-values of up to R20. In addition to the improved thermal performance, recent visual upgrades have dramatically enhanced the unit’s aesthetics thanks to eliminated vacuum ports and concealed “getters.”
