PITTSBURGH, June 28, 2018 — The shift from austere, impersonal office settings to welcoming environments that encourage teamwork and creativity has led to an infusion of color, non-traditional building materials and art in the corporate world.

These elements are on full display at 1775 Tysons Boulevard, a mixed-use building north of Washington, D.C., that houses 15 floors of office space sitting above a two-story glass-enclosed lobby and retail center. Designed by world-renowned architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), the 476,000-square-foot structure features an elegant façade highlighted by products from Goldray Glass and Vitro Architectural Glass, and a colorful art exhibit designed by renowned artist Spencer Finch.

Finch’s design incorporates laminated multi-colored interlayer glass panels by Goldray Glass on a Starphire Ultra-Clear^® glass substrate by Vitro Glass. Goldray worked with fabricator J.E. Berkowitz to create the corresponding insulating glass units (IGUs), which were installed into the central tier of the curtain wall, creating a pattern of brilliant blue, purple and yellow lines across the lobby floor.

Laminated etched glass balustrades held in place by runners at the top and base, rather than set into a full framing system, keep sightlines open and add texture and depth.

Part of Tysons II, a master-planned development featuring office towers, luxury retailers and upscale restaurants, 1775 Tysons Boulevard is the first building in the complex to achieve LEED^® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification. Sustainable design measures include reduced carbon dioxide emissions and stormwater runoff, the use of low-emitting materials, initiatives to conserve energy and water, and abundant access to daylight and views. The project also features recycled and locally sourced materials.

1775 Tysons Boulevard is the third building project on which Goldray Glass and Finch have collaborated.
